You will pay your $997 setup fee up front. $100 of that fee is non-refundable. After the 1-on-1 onboarding appointment, you will need to provide access to all the resources our team will need to assist you in making your WordPress website ready to launch – we expect you to do this in a timely fashion. You will not be charged the monthly fee until your website is complete and published. If after 30 days, however, we do not see sufficient effort on your part to progress the website toward completion, we may, at our discretion, begin to charge the monthly fee.
This plan does not require payment up front. Schedule a no-obligation appointment and an onboarding representative will talk through your project’s needs for free. After that conversation, you can decide if you want to move forward.

All that to say, we know what you need and have refined our tools and approaches over many years. You can certainly find someone who will charge you more, but you will not find anyone who understands you better.
Yes! Once submit your initial payment, our automated script builds your site from scratch - clean, full installs of all components. It's faster than emailing your university's IT department! The result is a website that is ready for you to edit. Swap your content in place of the sample content and replace the images with your own. If you're familiar with WordPress, have a bit of a designer's eye, and feel confident to drag-and-drop content to make good Web layouts (or literally swap your content in place of what we've already created), then the Independent plan could be a great choice for you. (In fact, if you make some preparation to organize all your content assets ahead of time and are a little ambitious, you could order your site, make all your edits, and coordinate with us to publish to your own URL within the same day!) For the Assisted plan, if you organize your content assets ahead of time, our team may be able to have you ready to publish within one or two days.
We are providing a premium value product based on decades of experience. To maintain our high standard and provide the best possible service and support, your website must be hosted on our servers. After six months, you've had a chance to get familiar with the system and ask any questions during that learning-curve window.
The Independent and Assisted plans must start with our hosting as our automated system requires it. If you want to move your website somewhere else after the initial setup and commitment, we charge a $199 transfer fee. You will then be responsible for providing a sufficient hosting environment and handling all ongoing code updates. If you do want continued support with your site, contact us about an off-site support plan, but that will only cover content editing not functionality of the site.
Your development site will be ready in just a few minutes on a development URL. Our expectation is that you will progress toward a site launch to your own URL in a timely manner. On the Independent plan, you have until the first monthly renewal payment to cancel for a full refund. On the Assisted plan, you won't be charged your subscription until your site is completed and published to your own URL. However, if after six months your site is still not published, we will start charging your subscription even while it's sitting in development. This is because we are still committing resources toward backups and code updates to the site, so it can't live there for free indefinitely.
We have secure credit card processing through Stripe. These are subscription payments that will process every month or every year based on the plan you sign up with.
Our system sends out an email to confirm your site plan purchase and then another when the site is ready (these are usually just two or three minutes apart). These are sent to the address you entered in the website administrator "Email Address" field in the Project Details form. If you don't see them in your inbox, make sure to check your spam folder. Also, as you complete your payment, you will be directed to the My Account page, where you will be able to see the status of your new site. Once it's ready, the "Initial Login Instructions" dialog at the top of the screen will give you the reset password link to your WordPress site. If you run into any trouble, contact us and we will make sure you get into your website.

The crucial things you'll need to figure out ahead of time are 1) What is your website's URL going to be? and 2) What will it take to make sure you can have us host it for you? The answer to the first question can greatly impact the complexity of the second question. If you have your own URL that you have registered yourself (a .com, .org, etc.) then you'll need to make sure you can log into wherever you registered that domain (when the time comes, you'll need to make a simply change to your DNS settings there - nothing to stress about, we'll walk you through it when it's time). If you have a university-provided URL (like labname.your-university.edu) then you'll need to navigate your university's policies for outside hosting a bit - sometimes that's easy, but sometimes not. We can give you some guidance with those conversations, but we often do just recommend you register your own URL (an added bonus is that if you move to a new university later, your URL stays with you...).
